Synopsis

The hills of Iceland, the ocean, and the country’s endless roads winding through the landscape form the backdrop for Hlynur Pálmason’s fourth feature film – this time about the silent disappearance of love and a marriage falling apart. Melancholic hygge is mixed with elements of magical realism, thus lending Pálmason’s signature style a new element: humor. The juxtaposition of pain with absurdity paints a picture that is both light-hearted and deeply moving. The authentic performances of the married couple and their children (played by the director’s own offspring) add a sense of warmth and sympathy. An important role is also played by the faithful border collie Panda, who was awarded the Palm Dog award at Cannes for best canine performance.
