Synopsis

Block C of the maximum security prison houses inmates convicted of fraud, robbery, and murder. One of them is Anggoro, who manages to hold his head high despite bullying from gangs and a tyrannical warden. But when the arrival of a young new prisoner triggers a series of mysterious, brutal murders, even the greatest enemies must join forces to survive and defeat the supernatural culprit. Supposedly, all you have to do is maintain a positive aura… But how? Indonesian genre wizard Joko Anwar returns to Karlovy Vary with a cinematic Gesamtkunstwerk that perfectly balances gore, biting comedy, and uncompromising political commentary – a film in which bursts of laughter are immediately followed by uncomfortable reflections on corruption, exploitation, and social inequality.
