Marija tells her husband Vytas that she wants a divorce – and this only a few hours before the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Their marital crisis thus suddenly becomes something much bigger: the couple have to navigate the separation process at a time when, because of the war, nothing is certain anymore and their life in Vilnius is drastically changing. In his third feature film, Lithuanian director Andrius Blaževičius introduces unexpected flashes of absurd humour as he deftly weaves an intimate family drama with sweeping historical events. The film had its world premiere screening in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at this year’s Sundance festival, where Blaževičius won the Directing Award.
