Afterhours / Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma / USA, Canada 2026
Camp Miasma, the cult slasher franchise from the eighties, is back! Enthusiastic director Kris is obsessed with the idea of restoring the series to its former glory while simultaneously purging it of the (by contemporary standards) problematic elements typical of genre films from that era. But when she meets actress Billy (Gillian Anderson) from the first film, they both plunge into an intoxicating, bloody delirium that completely blurs the line between the silver screen and reality. Working with love and admiration, director Jane Schoenbrun breaks down the slasher genre into its elementary particles, only to reassemble it in a new, more empathetic, and more open spirit. The result is a work they have described as Portrait of a Lady on Fire in the world of Friday the 13th.
