Synopsis

Can a war – like being in love or life itself – ever be too short? Two Belgian soldiers meet amidst the fighting of the First World War. Pierre is a shy young farm boy, while the charismatic tailor Francis swears by his theatrical “band of rejects,” who offer some of the few opportunities for entertainment and escape on the front lines. With the increasing horrors of the war, the two men’s attraction grows stronger – as do their thoughts of escape and their fear of being discovered. In his third and most mature film yet (following Girl and Close), Belgian director and screenwriter Lukas Dhont again explores queer identity and new aspects of masculinity with his typical sensitivity and aptitude for dramatic tension.
