After several years studying in Europe, Elsa returns home to Costa Rica, where she finds her family in disarray. Her younger sister is trying to cope with adulthood while living in their dilapidated family home, her father has a succession of younger partners, and her mother seems to be interested only in republishing the collection of erotic poems she wrote before becoming a mother. Elsa is convinced that she is the only stable one in the family, and so she tries to put everything in order. But stability is a relative concept, and – as so often happens – we all have our secrets. This refreshing family drama earned its three female leads the Best Actress Award in the Un Certain Regard section at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
