Misael works with wood. After his day is done he likes to take it easy, indulging in simple pleasures – and it doesn’t actually matter that the back of his chair is only made of string. But then a situation occurs in his uncomplicated life that could completely derail him. After a period of twenty-five years, Argentinian filmmaker Lisandro Alonso returns to his groundbreaking film Freedom, conducting a casual dialogue with it while also drawing on the best works that employ the concept of “emptied narration”. This focused, ascetic yet vibrant film effortlessly captures that most elementary form of human communication and once again searches for the limits of freedom.
