Horizons / Notre salut / France, Belgium 2026
It’s 1940 and Henri Marre has arrived in Vichy. He has no money or contacts; however, he carries in his suitcase copies of his self-published patriotic treatise Notre salut (Our Salvation) and is intent on taking advantage of the regime change in order to acquire the position he has always wanted. The ambitious official gradually becomes part of the collaborationist government structure, unaware that his career rise is inextricably linked with moral decay. Emmanuel Marre, this year’s winner of the Best Screenplay Award at Cannes, puts forward a chilling, contemporary portrait of opportunism. Without depicting the brutality of war itself, he exposes the corrupt soul that helps mould historical evil.
