Horizons / Cantona / United Kingdom 2026
This is not a documentary about an exceptional footballer. It is a documentary about Eric Cantona. And of course, any look at this multifaceted phenomenon has to start with his mastery of football. Originality, elegance, and an explosive nature characterized (and continue to characterize) this former playmaker on and off the pitch and have contributed to his cult status. As an outspoken champion of absolute authenticity – his sole weapon against destructive hypercorrectness – he has naturally found himself in many spectacular situations that formed ideal material for a pair of filmmakers chronicling his life and career. Where the French failed to understand the force of nature that is Cantona, there begins the story of Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson, a figure to whom the film rightly devotes considerable screen time.
