Festival tips for Wednesday, 5 July

July 05, 2017, 6:00

Another meeting with filmmakers KVIFF Talk takes place today, this time with Canadian director Denis Côté, in Thermal Hotel Cinema C at 4 p.m. Côté, an independent Canadian author, created 12 feature films and 16 short films within a span of over twenty years, all characterised by a very specific and uncompromising style. His film Vic+Flo Saw a Bear received a Silver Bear and the Alfred Bauer Prize at 2013 Berlinale. His latest film, Boris Without Beatrice, premiered at the 2016 Berlin International Film Festival. KVIFF presents his first film, Radisson, which was awarded the Golden Leopard award in Locarno.

Romanian film Breaking News directed by Iulia Rugină and included in the Competition explores, among others, relations between parents and children and the current media’s tendency to turn human stories into tabloid news. The director, together with her collaborators, will introduce the film in the Thermal Hotel Grand Hall at 04.00 p.m. The Czech Republic is represented in the Competition with the film Little Crusader, a highly stylised adaptation of a poem by Jaroslav Vrchlický. Director Václav Kadrnka, actor Karel Roden and others will present the film in the Grand Hall at 8 p.m.

The “Cinema Without Barriers” event presents a folk-rock group Z hecu at Mlýnská kolonáda from 03.00 p.m. The Karlovy Vary Festival Evening hosts a traditional open-air concert at the Outdoor Cinema. The concert begins at 08.00 p.m. and presents the singer Michal Hrůza and the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra.
