Festival tips for Wednesday, 4 July

At 2 p.m. in the Grand Hall, director Terry Gilliam and actor Joana Ribeiro will present The Man Who Killed Don Quixote,  a film that was 29 years in the making. Starting at 9 p.m. in the Karlovy Vary Municipal Theatre, there will be a special concert: Tim Robbins and The Rogues Gallery Band will perform. Tickets cost CZK 190 and can be purchased at the main ticket office at Hotel Thermal.

Starting at 5 p.m. in the Grand Hall, another competition entry will be screened: the film Jumpman (Podbrosy) by Russian director Ivan I. Tverdovskiy. The second competition entry will take the audience to a Brazilian summer resort. The film Sueño Florianópolis will be presented by its delegation in the Grand Hall at 8 p.m.

KVIFF Talk with the author and protagonist of the film Touch Me Not, which received the Golden Bear at this year’s Berlinale, will take place in the Congress Hall at 1:00 p.m. Then the second KVIFF Talk of the day will be devoted to the documentary Bufo Alvarius – The Underground Secret, an audio-visual testimony about the strongest known natural psychedelic tryptamine 5-MeO-DMT and a frog from the Sonoran desert. After its screening, a discussion will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Cinema A. Director Filip Záruba and others, like clinical psychologist Michael Vančura, will be in attendance.

Festivalgoers will be able to talk about new films and plans with Helena Uldrichová, Head of the Czech Television Film Centre, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Czech Television House on  Divadelní náměstí. Discussions about the Czech Films Mosul and Short Cut (Na krátko) and the series Labyrint III will also be held there.

At  3:00 p.m., the Mill Colonnade (Mlýnská kolonáda) will undergo a transformation for the Cinema without Barriers programme. During the event, you will be able to join forces with wheelchair users and do some sports.

This evening, the now traditional Karlovy Vary Festival Evening will take place. Ewa Farná will perform, and the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra will accompany her. Other guests include David Stypka & Bandjeez. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Outdoor Cinema. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the venue.
