Viewers Re-Energize Accumulator 1

July 06, 2018, 15:26

Director Jan Svěrák showed up 20 years after filming to fire up the sci-fi-action-comedy Accumulator 1 for the premiere of its re-mastered version in the Grand Hall. “We are here together to take the film out of its grave, pump its veins with blood, dress it in new clothes, vigorously pat its cheeks and let it out into the world,” said the Oscar-winning director.

The post-Velvet Revolution movie tells the story of an outsider named Olda discovers a parallel universe behind the TV screen. In this “through-the-looking-glass” world lives his double, draining Olda’s energy. Olda is therefore convinced that he must fight against the TV mechanism with (not only) the remote-control hanging from his belt.

Svěrák and the audience ventured to return the energy to a great parody of Hollywood blockbusters, which utilized cutting-edge special effects in 1994, with the help of a small exercise. With deep breaths and energy gathered from this dimension, the 1200-strong audience blew the movie back onto the screen. It is well known that energy given through good will must be returned in equal measure. The viewers were rewarded with 102 minutes of excellent entertainment.
