Just as in years past, some films from this year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will enjoy regular distribution in Czech cinemas.
Already during the festival, Terry Gilliam’s The Man Who Killed Don Quixote was being shown in Czech theatres. And on 12 July, theatres began screening Poland’s Cold War, plus Loveling and The Guilty. All three are being shown in cinemas throughout the Czech Republic thanks to KVIFF Distribution’s Vary ve vašem kině (Vary at Your Cinema) project. Starting 19 July, audiences can experience the emotional drama U – 22 July, and Tomáš Pavlíček’s Bear with Us will be coming to cinemas on the last weekend of summer vacation. Early August will see the arrival of the Australian western Sweet Country, on 16 August audiences can look forward to the anti-racist comedy BlacKkKlansman and to Summer, set in Leningrad in the early 1980s, and late August brings Jan Němec’s brilliant classic Diamonds of the Night.
September will be a month of Czech premieres. After their world premieres in Karlovy Vary, Czech audiences will be treated to the fiction films Winter Flies and Domestique and the documentaries Inside Mosul, Markéta Wants Her Bag and King Skate. The premiere of the domestic comedy Mars is planned for October, as is the distribution of the dark Nordic crime drama Border.
November brings Jenoféva Boková in Moments, this year’s winner at the Berlinale Touch Me Not, Belgium’s Girl, named the best at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and the French comedy Sink or Swim. And coming in December is the Czech-Polish co-production Fugue.
