The screenwriters and directors Martin Dušek and Ondřej Provazník, joined by a large delegation including the actor Jiří Schmitzer, introduced their new film Old-timers at the Karlovy Vary Municipal Theatre today. Their realistic account of the precarious road to justice of two nearly infirm men authentically portraits stubborn old age, but also reflects the past in poetic and sometimes humorous way.
Vlasta comes from abroad to visit his friend Tonda in the Czech Republic. The two have a long common history and both have experienced injustice under the communist regime. This is not a mere meeting of old friends as Vlasta, longing for vengeance, involves Tonda in his secret plan to find and kill the communist procurator who orchestrated their imprisonment in 1950’s.
The directing duo Dušek and Provazník, who already made together two documentaries – Poustevna, das ist Paradies! and Coal in the Soul, briefly introduced the main theme of their film. “Our film has existential, social, as well as political levels, which we tried to organically intertwine. We hope that the audience will understand the message,” concluded the authors, also commending the artistic performance and great comeback of Ladislav Mrkvička, who impersonates one of the main characters.
