On Monday, Proxima continues with exploration of intimacy. Of lovers and one eccentric mother

July 03, 2023, 11:00

Penelope and Isidoros’ relationship is portrayed in different situations, just as a butterfly goes through various distinctive stages of its life cycle. Regardless of time, free of a linear narrative, we witness plots and twists that affect the characters’ lives. Embryo Larva Butterfly is a Cubist mosaic about loss, guilt and longing.

“A playful approach to creation is crucial for me, drawing inspiration from admired poets like Rimbaud and Thanos Kois”, explains the film’s director Kyros Papavassiliou. His relationship drama joins the Proxima Competition at 4:00 p.m. at the Karlovy Vary Municipal Theatre. This is his second feature film, following Impressions of a Drowned Man (2015) presented at the 50th KVIFF.

This is not the first time the French filmmaker has analysed her family – she presented a humorous portrait of her sister Oh La La Pauline!  at Cannes (2015). Her documentary Keeping Mum premieres at the Karlovy Vary Municipal Theatre at 7:00 pm.
