How to stand up against injustice? European premiere of Temporaries explored humanity

July 03, 2023, 10:40

The Canadian film Temporaries had its European premiere at the Pupp Cinema. It has been shown as part of the Special Screenings section of the 57th KVIFF and previously has only been seen by the Tribeca Festival audience. This socially critical drama about Guatemalan immigrants for whom the American dream means hard work in unscrupulous conditions raises delicate questions.

The film, a sensitive exploration of humanity and empathy, was accompanied by a delegation of filmmakers – director Pier-Philippe Chevigny, producer Geneviève Gosselin G. and actress Ariane Castellanos. “In the original version, the film is called Richelieu, which is the name of a valley in Québec where more than 50% of all local food is produced,” the director explained before the screening. “I think the film could cause a lot of controversy in Quebec. We are actually dependent on this unfairly set system.” However, the film does not look for culprits or point fingers, but rather authentically conveys the message that injustice can have a wide impact.
