July 06, 2015, 8:00

Aleš Najbrt and co. will acquaint you with the festival’s visuals, Eva Zaoralová will release a book about the festival, and Helena Třeštíková will present Mallory.

The new week will kick off with a press conference for the Film Foundation of Czech Television, RWE and Barrandov Studio (Czech Television House, 11:00) and the second KVIFF Talk of the year. This time Michal Caban, Aleš Najbrt and Václav Jirásek will acquaint you with their unique visual approach to each year’s festival (Vodafone Lounge, 12:30). The Slovak-Czech film Koza will be introduced by the team that created it, led by director Ivan Ostrochovský and leading actor Peter Baláž (Grand Hall, 11:30).

Also check out the brand-new section Future Frames I and II, in which ten promising directors will present their short films and discuss them with viewers (Small Hall, 15:30 and Small Hall, 18:30). You can also attend a talk about the new documentary Film Spa with director Miroslav Janek, IFF consultant Eva Zaoralová and producers (Czech Television House, 13:15).

Jaroslav Plesl will be signing autographs from 15:00 at the RWE Stand at Mlýnská kolonáda. You can enjoy today’s Tea at Three in the Czech Television House with director Helena Třeštíková, producers Kateřina Černá and Pavel Strnad and the main protagonist of the documentary Mallory.

The Official Selection continues on Monday as well. Two films from the competition will have their world premieres: the Canadian debut The Sound of Trees (Grand Hall, 17:00) and the Polish-Czech-Slovak crime film The Red Spider (Grand Hall, 20:00). The second competition section, East of the West, is represented today by the Romanian film The World is Mine (Karlovy Vary Theatre, 16:00) and the Turkish-German drama Ivy (Karlovy Vary Theatre, 18:30).

The release party for Eva Zaoralová’s book The Story of the Festival will take place at 16:30 in the Thermal Hotel press hall. The Six Close Encounters continue with Sergei Loznitsa and one of his favorite films, the drama The Asthenic Syndrome (Karlovy Vary Theatre, 21:30).

You might also be interested in the stage comedy Over-Fifties directed by Vojtěch Kotek and starring Jakub Prachař, Ondřej Havelka and Marek Taclík (Husovka Theatre, 22:30). You can purchase tickets at the Thermal Hotel’s Main Ticket Desk. You can finish off your Monday evening with the world premiere of Greek documentary My Friend Larry Gus (Congress Hall, 22:00). Director Vasilis Katsoupis and protagonist Larry Gus will present it in person and await your questions afterwards.
