Comrades in Dreams

Forum of Independents - Competition 2007 / Comrades in Dreams / Germany 2006

Han Jong Sil from North Korea, Penny Tefertiller from Wyoming, USA,  Lassane from Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso, Anup from India: four projectionists from around the world, for whom cinema means life – in a documentary film by German director Uli Gaulke.

Comrades in Dreams Comrades in Dreams

Synopsis

A documentary portrait of several people for whom the cinema is their life. Han Jong Sil is from North Korea. She enjoys life and hopes to improve other people’s lives through her films. Penny Tefertiller from Wyoming in the USA has also devoted her life to the community by providing the young and the lonely with a place where they can meet others. The hale and hearty, self-confident Lassane from Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso, one of the world’s poorest countries, is trying his best to show films in a run-down open air cinema. Anup from India has a tent which bursts at the seams when he screens popular local films. His habit of blessing the rolls of film at the temple and his knack for choosing the best titles have made him the uncrowned king of the region’s travelling cinema. These people’s search for a little bit of happiness reminds us that the best stories are not found on the big screen alone.
