Pilgrimage from Scattered Points

2008: A Musical Odyssey 2008 / Pilgrimage from Scattered Points / United Kingdom 2006

In this dynamic, audience-friendly and incredibly imaginative “personal document”, the experimental filmmaker pays tribute to British composer Cornelius Cardew. The latter’s ensemble The Scratch Orchestra closely adhered to the principles of democracy and anarchy, reflecting the artistic and political radicalism of the 1960s.

Pilgrimage from Scattered Points

Synopsis

In this dynamic, imaginative “personal document”, the experimental filmmaker pays tribute to British composer Cornelius Cardew, whose ensemble The Scratch Orchestra closely adhered to the principles of democracy and anarchy, reflecting the artistic and political radicalism of the 1960s. His orchestra attracted professionals and amateurs alike – including a young Michael Nyman and Brian Eno. Director Luke Fowler found a type of intense audiovisual collage, where sound and image unite to form a hypnotic current which reaches far into the subjective sphere of experimental film.
