Quinn Saunders, a successful director of short films whom Robert Zemeckis designated as one of the most talented directors of the new generation, acknowledges his admiration for the cult movie sex, lies, and videotape. Similarly, in his feature debut a relationship triangle emerges out of the fickleness of human nature and the lengths we all go to in order to hide our true selves from each other.

Synopsis

Delicate, romantic, and bashful Brian Cherry is continually engaged in a debate about the opposite sex with his pragmatic and dandified friend Sam. That is until one day he meets a seductive and lively actress named Jules. This unfettered yet internally wounded beauty turns his naïve ideas about women and sex upside down. He ignores Sam’s warnings and yields to "the voice of his heart.” Advocating the opinion that "we’re all the victims of our instincts,” Sam runs an exclusive and snobby Los Angeles club for wealthy male clientele, and he offers Jules a job. At that moment, communication and relations among the threesome begin to warp. The vicious circle of lies provokes Brian to the shocking decision to shatter the ideas that the other characters have about him and even about themselves.... Saunders’ discussions about how well we can know an individual and his probes into the dark and fickle sides of human nature betray his admiration for the cult film sex, lies, and videotape.

About the director

Quinn Saunders

Quinn Saunders (b. 1975, Lumberton, New Jersey) graduated in direction from USC’s School of Cinema-Television. He was one of a few students whom Robert Zemeckis selected for his prestigious workshop as one of the most talented directors of the new generation. Under Zemeckis’ guidance, Saunders wrote, directed, and produced the short film Fortunate Son (2004) in which a war veteran tries to find out the cause of his son’s death with the help of the spirit of a boy he killed in Vietnam. The picture made the festival rounds and took a variety of awards. Saunders’ short film work bears witness to his multiplicity of talents: screenwriter, director of photography, editor, and producer. His television work (e.g. he directed numerous episodes of the "Big Brother” series, 2000) also demonstrates his versatility. Cherry. is his feature debut.
