Concussion

Another View 2013 / Concussion / USA 2013

Abby takes an accidental blow to the head from a baseball – and decides to fundamentally change her life as a housewife. By day she secretly begins working as a prostitute specializing in wealthy female customers.… Reminiscent of a cross between The Kids Are All Right and Belle de jour, Stacie Passon’s debut drama focuses on a lesbian relationship in crisis.

Synopsis

Abby suffers a chance blow to the head – and then wakes up with the feeling that passion has slipped out of her life. Until now, the housewife has lived a quiet but elegant suburban existence raising two kids with lawyer Kate. But now she decides to fundamentally change things: she rents an apartment in Manhattan and begins to work by day as a high-end prostitute. Abby chooses her rich female clients with great care, but the varied experiences from her secret existence begin to influence her family life and her common sense.… Stacie Passon’s debut employs playful and provocative intelligence to comment on a case of lost passion in a relationship and on the alienation of a modern, emancipated woman. Reminiscent of a cross between the tragicomedy The Kids Are All Right and Belle de jour, the movie stands out for Robin Weigert’s powerful lead performance. After a successful premiere at the Sundance festival, the director picked up a Teddy at this year’s Berlinale.
