Cockneys vs Zombies

Midnight Screenings 2013 / Cockneys vs Zombies / United Kingdom 2012

A construction company demolishes an ancient tomb and awakens hordes of bloodthirsty zombies. Luckily, there’s two yobs from the East End, their loser friends, and a group of nimble senior citizens from the local retirement home. This fresh anti-developer "zomedy” offers a bloodbath spiced up with London’s specific slang.

Synopsis

When a construction company demolishes an ancient tomb in a London suburb and ends up waking up hordes of bloodthirsty zombies, the British capital looks all but done for. Luckily, there’s Terry and Andy, two yobs from the East End who at the same time are planning to rob a bank. They plan to give the money to their grandfather, a jovial war veteran and still a fine looker living at the local retirement home. The same company that woke up the army of the undead wants to force out the helpless old-timers and demolish their care home, and only a fat wad of cash can save them. But the robbery doesn’t go as planned, and the zombies are just around the corner. Luckily Terry, Andy and their friends are armed to the teeth. Now the gang and the nimble seniors will have to find a way to blow the endless hordes of zombies to smithereens and send them to kingdom come. This fresh anti-developer "zomedy” in which heads fall like overripe apples offers a bloodbath spiced with London’s specific slang.

About the director

Matthias Hoene

Matthias Hoene was born in Singapore, grew up in Berlin, and studied in Sydney and London. While attending St. Martin’s College, he shot several successful short films, after which he was approached by one of London’s most important production companies, Partizan, for which he makes music videos, commercials and documentaries while also focusing on his own projects such as the online horror series "Beyond the Rave" (2008). His advertising background is more than evident in his feature-length debut, the horror comedy Cockneys vs Zombies (2012). "I wanted to go for a very shiny, sexy view of East London,” says Hoene, "to give it a really cinematic look, in a way that it maybe hasn’t been shown before.”
