An experiment which became a finished short film, made during the director’s stay in Rotterdam. The sadness of doves captive in a cage and their efforts to escape – from the cage and even from the film strip.
Synopsis
"Dove Coup was made while I ran a filmmaking workshop at the Filmwerkplaatz in Rotterdam,” states Rivers on the origin of his second shortest film. "I wanted to demonstrate how you can make a film print using a torch, and used some footage I had shot at the bed + breakfast where I was staying. In the back yard the owner kept some doves in a cage, which I thought was pretty sad – I liked the way in the final film they are breaking out of the frame. I’ve made many little experiments and tests, and they remain just that, but this one I felt should be a finished film, despite its brevity.”
