Peacock

Future Frames: Ten New Filmmakers To Follow 2015 / Furiant / Czech Republic 2015

The childhood and youth of Ladislav Stroupežnický, legend of Czech realism, as told in three chapters that we may or may not have come across in our literature textbooks. Accented with its own brand of humor and formal playfulness, the filmmakers claim it’s got it all: suspense, humor, violence, hope, emotion, nudity, sex, and even a happy ending.

Synopsis

“In order to become the first true dramatist of realism he had to experience what it was to be the last of the romantics.” Thus Ondřej Hudeček’s film describes the early days of Ladislav Stroupežnický, legend of Czech theater. Bearing the subtitle A Comedy in Three Acts, the movie parodies the cliché of the staged TV documentary, fashioning an inventive image of the famed dramatist that is (un)known in the annals of literature. In the words of the filmmakers, it’s got it all: suspense, humor, violence, hope, emotion, nudity, sex, and even a happy ending.
