Tangerine

Forum of Independents - Competition 2015 / Tangerine / USA 2014

Sin-Dee is back and she’s mad as hell. During the month she was gone (read: in prison) she found out her boyfriend was stepping out on her – and with a “normal” girl to boot. And Sin-Dee, a girl with a capital G (and with something that hints at her past life as a man), isn’t about to put up with that. Violence, love, and friendship – all this in a comedy shot on an iPhone 5.

Tangerine Tangerine

Synopsis

Sin-Dee is back and she’s mad as hell. She was in jail for just a month, but her boyfriend already has someone else. And as if this wasn’t bad enough, this time around he’s gotten involved with a “normal girl”. Sin-Dee sets out for vengeance, with her best friend Alex right behind her. While the two women, hiding their male “bonus parts” under their skirts, go on a rampage through the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles, Armenian taxi driver Razmik is working a shift like any other, only maybe a little bit worse. Working on Christmas Eve means a bigger pay packet, but also more drunks and a car in need of cleaning. And yes, Sin-Dee is back. This is news that can’t be ignored, and so Razmik will have to meet up with this temperamental woman again. What else can possibly happen over one sultry Christmas Eve in the City of Angels? Who is in love with whom, who is sleeping with whom, and what should Razmik’s poor mother-in-law make of it all since nobody can speak Armenian? Violence, love, friendship and drugs – all this in a comedy filmed on an iPhone 5.

About the director

Sean Baker

Sean Baker (b. 1971, Summit, New Jersey) studied film in New York and worked on the cult puppet sitcom Greg the Bunny starring popular comic Seth Green. This was followed by the MTV spin-off Warren the Ape (2010). His real interest, however, is social realist film. His debut Four Letter Words (2000) focused on adolescent men, while his second film Take Out (2004), co-directed with Shih-Ching Tsou, tells the dramatic story of an illegal Chinese immigrant in New York. Prince of Broadway (2008) was shown at the 44th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. His subsequent film, the drama Starlet (2012), won the Robert Altman Spirit Award.
