Flower of a Thousand Colours

Future Frames: Ten New Filmmakers To Follow 2016 / Flor de Mil Colores / Belgium 2015

Bolivia, 4,897 meters above sea level. A mother of six heads for the mines every day in order to keep the family afloat. Although the region in which she lives has come under the sway of demon alcohol and ever-present hopelessness, Emiliana doesn’t complain about her lot. Flower of a Thousand Colours is a subtle portrait of a resilient woman who refuses to submit to the harsh conditions of reality, determined to fight it with patient resolve.

Synopsis

Bolivia, 4,897 meters above sea level. A normal day begins for Emiliana. She sees to her five kids, and then sets out for her daily grind in the mines. The view of the mountains may be reminiscent of paradise on Earth, but the inhabitants’ humdrum existence is the diametric opposite. The poverty and ever-present hopelessness have allowed demon alcohol to hold sway, and the consequences have hit Emiliana’s family. Flower of a Thousand Colours offers up a subtle portrait of a resilient woman who refuses to succumb to the brutality of the world.
