The Slow Business of Going

Made in Texas: Tribute to Austin Film Society 2018 / The Slow Business of Going / Greece, USA 2000

The Slow Business of Going is a wild experiment involving a patchwork of film images and references, in a story about a young woman who travels the world collecting audiovisual material. Tsangari’s first feature, made with a grant from the Austin Film Society, heralds the artist’s dexterity with film logic and language, and with imaginative cultural critique.

Synopsis

Athina Rachel Tsangari is best known for her award-winning Greek-produced features Attenberg (2010) and Chevalier (2015). In the 1990s Tsangari was living in Austin, attending the University of Texas film program, and developing her filmmaking skills alongside the Austin Film Society crowd, which led her to appearing in Slacker as “the cousin from Greece.” Tsangari’s first feature, made with a grant from the Austin Film Society, heralds the artist’s dexterity with film logic and language and with imaginative cultural critique. The Slow Business of Going is a wild experiment involving a patchwork of film images and references in a story about a young woman who travels the world collecting audiovisual material.
