Sleep Has Her House

Imagina 2018 / Sleep Has Her House / United Kingdom 2017

A spectral landscape where human traces have completely disappeared. Only animals under the cover of darkness quietly await the arrival of a mystic spirit diffusing over the forest basins. This feature-length cinematic nocturne is a nightmare, a romantic excursion into unbridled wilderness, and an apocalyptic vision in one.

Synopsis

A spectral landscape where human traces have completely disappeared. Only animals under the cover of darkness quietly await the arrival of a mystic spirit diffusing over the forest basins. This feature-length cinematic nocturne is a nightmare, a romantic excursion into unbridled wilderness, and an apocalyptic vision in one. It’s hard to imagine a more exciting and distinctive feature debut for English visual artist Scott Barley. Employing slowly passing images of dusky and seemingly deserted landscapes, Barley envelops nature in a cloak of impenetrable mystery, transcendental repose, and chilling expectation. The experience, both intoxicating and profound, relies on minimal formal resources, ingenious camerawork, gentle movements, and the compelling flow of time.
