Oleg Oleg

Synopsis

Oleg, a Latvian butcher living in Brussels, is trying to handle a difficult financial situation, but a false accusation costs him a promised job at a meat factory. Then he becomes acquainted with a charismatic Pole named Andrzej who offers to help, and it seems as though things have taken a turn for the better… In his second picture Juris Kursietis presents a chillingly realistic, multilayered look at the lives of the less privileged living in the heart of the European Union. The film packs a punch thanks in part to the contrast between the low-key acting of Valentin Novopolskij as the hapless Oleg and an expressive performance from Polish actor Dawid Ogrodnik in the role of Andrzej. The film premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight at this year’s Cannes festival.
