The Lodge

Midnight Screenings 2019 / The Lodge / USA, United Kingdom 2019

Aidan and Mia don’t want their father to remarry. Grace, his bride-to-be, is a fragile young woman with an unhappy past who wants to get to know the children better, but they stubbornly refuse to acknowledge her existence. That is, until they are left alone with her at the family lodge far from civilization…

The Lodge The Lodge

Synopsis

Well-to-do psychologist Richard is ending his failed marriage and has taken charge of his two children. His fiancée, the young and beautiful Grace, is a former patient who miraculously escaped from a suicidal Christian cult. At first, Richard’s plan to foster friendship between his kids and his new partner during a weekend together in the mountains seems like a good idea. But then Richard is called away to work, and Grace is left alone with the kids in the snow-bound landscape where memories of her past come back to haunt her. This psychological drama, elegantly filmed by Yorgos Lanthimos’s cinematographer Thimios Bakatakis, is a cleverly contrived exploration of the boundaries between reality, memory, and madness.
