Synopsis

Ali earns a living illegally selling gasoline on the street. He doesn’t have any contact with his family, but when he receives news that his father has died, he is forced to become responsible for his two younger sisters. He also has a brother, but he's gone off to work at a seaside resort. Ali is thus left alone to deal with all the worries, of which there are more than enough. The family home is burdened by debt and the police have intensified their search for fuel smugglers… Harka was shown in the Un Certain Regard competition at this year’s festival in Cannes, where it rightfully took away the best actor award: Adam Bessa has succeeded in excellently portraying the ambivalent figure of Ali from his initial impenetrable shyness all the way to the oppressive, hopeless and Kafkaesque finale.
