Synopsis

The jaded detective Travis Hurley arrives in a small town in order to investigate the 20-year-old disappearance of the aboriginal girl Charlotte. The local inhabitants are initially skeptical of the white newcomer, but his stoic nature soon gets them to reveal old secrets and open up their hearts. This desert noir set in the bleak beauty of Australia’s opal fields explores the dark shadows of a long-ago crime and gives voice to those living on the segregated margins of Australian society. It is an atmospheric film that injects into its viewers’ veins just the right mixture of desperation and hope, with the seasoned Mentalist Simon Baker exceling as an unexpected fixer of human destinies.
