Synopsis

Austria in the early 1980s. Perla, a refugee from socialist Czechoslovakia, tries to make art and raise her daughter in a free world far from political oppression. She gradually finds her footing in the artistic community and in a new relationship. But one day the phone rings, and she hears the voice of her former partner and the father of her child, who has remained behind in Slovakia. Perla takes a fresh and highly disturbing look at the recent past. Carefully composed shots, an oppressive atmosphere, and a meticulously crafted story remind us that only recently the world was still divided by borders that cut not only through Europe but also through the minds of people forcefully separated by them.
