After many years spent in Canada, Nenad comes back to visit his native city. At first sight things seem as they always were, but it soon becomes clear that everything has changed. The screenwriter Milena Marković and director Oleg Novković, the pupil of Srdjan Karanović, who was a member of the “Czech school of Yugoslav film”, have created a film about their own generation’s search for meaning and identity on the brink of middle age.
Synopsis
After twelve years in Canada, Nenad goes back to his native Belgrade where he wants to celebrate his wedding with Maja in the company of family and old friends before returning to the country where he seems to have put down roots. He meets his parents, former friends and his former love Sasha, and despite the long separation, they all assure each other that everything is just as it was, and no-one and nothing has changed except for the appearance of the odd wrinkle or grey hair. But everyone senses that the opposite is true. Most obvious is the absence of Sima, one of a foursome of inseparable friends, but there are many more losses and mental scars which gradually come to light. The screenplay for Tomorrow Morning is the work of Milena Marković, poet and author of plays that have been staged and won prizes abroad as well as at home. In the screenplay she explores the feelings, disappointments and hopes of her contemporaries on the threshold of real maturity and the continuous quest to find oneself in a world full of contradictions. Director Oleg Novković made the film in the production company of the well-known actor Lazar Ristovski, who plays the role of Nenad’s father.
