It has become a tradition that Šary Vary are started off on the last day of the festival. The official Festival Echoes, which start on Saturday, July 7th, and end on Sunday, July 15th, will enable spectators in Prague, in cinemas Aero and Světozor, and in Brno, in the University Cinema Scala, to view almost thirty films. You can find the complete programme at www.ozvenyvaru.cz.
A story of fatal love told by Oscar-winning director Paweł Pawlikowski in his film Cold War, winner of this year’s Best Director Award in Cannes; psychological drama Everybody Knows with the excellent Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz, directed by two-time Oscar winner Asghar Farhadi; Danish thriller and a hit among spectators of the Sundance Festival, The Guilty; acclaimed transatlantic drama Leave No Trace; Czech feature debut Domestique by director of the series Semester, Adam Sedlák; a remastered version of Accumulator 1; or drug musical Climax by Gaspar Noé. These are just some of the titles of this year’s Festival Echoes Šary Vary.
„As always, we were in a great hurry this year, since there is only one week left between the closing date of the festival and the subsequent programming of the Echoes. Our main goal for the eleventh season stays the same, that is to offer spectators, who were unable to visit Karlovy Vary, a representative overview of the whole festival. I am happy to say that this year we managed to combine prominent competition titles, Oscar-aspiring films, strong documents and films from the Special Events section,“ summarizes Zuzana Kameníková, director of the Prague cinema Aero, which is organizing the Festival Echoes for an eleventh time.
The following three films: Cold War, The Guilty and Loveling will also be screened in other towns thanks to the project Vary ve vašem kině (Vary in your cinema). This project joins the activities of the IFF Karlovy Vary, the Czech Television and the distribution company Aerofilms. The aim of the distribution label KVIFF Distribution, which houses the project Vary ve vašem kině, is to enable spectators from all over the country to view the most significant contemporary European and world films.
First-hand brews throughout the year.
