Festival tips for Thursday, 7 July

On Thursday, make sure to stick with the film programme until later at night. A special screening of the film Shine will be presented by Geoffrey Rush himself in the Grand Hall at 10:00 p.m. You can meet the Oscar-winning actor already at 2:00 p.m. in the Congress Hall, where Polish journalist Marta Balaga will be hosting his KVIFF Talk. The interview will be conducted in English without interpreting.

There will be an opportunity to meet the competing filmmakers again in the KVIFF.TV Park, where more accompanying debates will also take place. A meeting with the Bulgarian delegation to the documentary A Provincial Hospital is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. and with the creators of the Japanese film A Far Shore for 4:15 p.m.

There will be a lot to do and see in KVIFF.TV Park again. Firstly, the graphic designer Aleš Najbrt will show up at 12:30 p.m. He is one of the three members of the Tros Sketos band, whose performance you can enjoy from 10:30 p.m. in the Karlovy Vary Municipal Theatre. Tickets can be purchased at the main ticket office in the Thermal Hotel. Director Jan Hřebejk will speak with Čestmír Strakatý at 2:00 p.m. You can also watch the interview live on KVIFF.TV.

You can also visit the festival zones on the colonnade. In the Vodafone Relax zone, there is an animation lesson every day, on Thursday it starts from 10:00. You can watch the created animations along with other films in the Vodafone TV summer cinema.

The Rohlík zone invites you every day for drinks and food from farm ingredients, the adjacent Rohlíček zone offers babysitting and entertainment for children. Of course, you can also pick up your purchase from Rohlik Point here

At the innogy point, you can try a film quiz and dubbing, recharge your mobile phone or tablet and get a free ice cream. In addition, there will be a talk show with a festival guest every day, on Thursday it will be Václav Noid Bárta, who will follow up with his recital at 18:30.

The Mill Colonnade will host the traditional competition of Pilsner Urquell bartenders, the Vrchní, prchni! race, from 5:00 p.m. Come and see how they fight the falling beer head. You can make your Thursday programme at the colonnade even richer by attending a concert of the band Portless which will take place in the Mattoni Life Bar at 7:00 p.m.

In the competition for the Crystal Globe, the film Summer with Hope, a gripping story of a teenage swimmer, his coach and their struggle with authoritarian society in Iran, will be presented in the Grand Hall at 5:00 p.m. A screening of You Have to Come and See It will follow at 8:00 p.m. The magical world created by the acclaimed director Jonás Trueba features two couples in their thirties and their heated discussions unfolding between Madrid and the Spanish countryside.

Karlovy Vary Municipal Theatre will see two premieres in the Proxima competition on Thursday, namely the Brazilian sports drama Tinnitus at 4:00 p. m., and Zoo Lock Down, a documentary by renowned filmmaker Andreas Horvath, at 7:00 p.m.
