Hypnosis and fascination with evil. Tuesday’s Crystal Globe Competition goes dark

July 04, 2023, 9:00

André and Vera are preparing for a prestigious showcase of promising start-ups where they want to succeed with their mobile app. On the eve of the presentation, Vera tries hypnotherapy to help her quit smoking. However, the therapy comes with side effects. Vera begins to behave differently and loses her social inhibitions. The role of André, her business and life partner, is played by Herbert Nordrum, whom you may remember from the Norwegian hit The Worst Person in the World.

Up-and-coming Swedish director Ernst De Geer’s graduation film The Culture (2018) has garnered a lot of success at international festivals. The Hypnosis, which is competing in KVIFF’s Crystal Globe Competition, is his feature debut and will premiere in the Grand Hall at 5:00 p.m.

Ludovic Chevalier is accused of the murders of three underage girls. He also filmed and streamed them online. His trial now begins. No one would have guessed what this means to the young model Kelly-Anne. Fascination. She obsessively attends all Chevalier’s court sessions. Why does she feel such an irresistible magnetic pull towards him? Is she attracted to evil? A girl with hacking skills decides to immerse herself in the search for more videos.

The verdict will be delivered at tonight’s world premiere in the Grand Hall at 8:00 p.m. With his unsettling thriller Red Rooms, the Canadian director Pascal Plante once again manages to exceed the audience’s expectations – much like with his unconventional portrayal of an Olympic swimmer Nadia, Butterfly (2020).
