Rogalik

Documentary Films - Competition 2013 / Rogalik / Poland 2012

Via slow tracking shots, the camera glides through a series of ordinary Polish households and, like a prying voyeur, captures the hidden magic of everyday home life. This inventive and strictly observational cinematographic essay by Paweł Ziemilski won awards at the festivals in Zagreb and Oberhausen.

Synopsis

Can a well-thought-out formal structure elevate seemingly mundane content into an inspiring filmmaking experience? Yes, indeed, as Polish documentarist Paweł Ziemilski demonstrates, even without a word of commentary or dialogue. Slow camera shots glide through several ordinary Polish households and, like an inquisitive voyeur, capture the hidden magic of everyday domestic life. With its inventive visuals, the film is a highly original and strictly observational cinematic essay.
