Synopsis

Uyen Luu is a 23-year-old Vietnamese girl who, now conditions have become more relaxed, decides to visit her native country. She left Communist Saigon with her mother when she was a little girl – now she has come back after almost 20 years to capture her return to this intimate yet alien environment.

About the director

Uyen Luu (b.1977, Saigon), the daughter of Vietnamese emigrants, graduated from her film course at Saint Martin’s College of Art. She lives and works in London where she makes short films and advertisements. The documentary film Pho is her largest independent project to date: Uyen Luu acquired financial support for its production from institutions such as the Arts Council of England and the London Film and Video Development Agency.
