Future Frames: Ten New Filmmakers To Follow 2016 / Julian / Switzerland 2015

The prospect of the approaching end often leads us to look back on our lives. In director Julia Furer’s emotion-packed documentary, harpsichord maker Julian has exactly two months left, during which time he must make his last instrument. But he must also come to terms with the past and admit to himself that you can’t seal yourself off behind the walls of a workshop to keep the world at bay.

Julian Julian

Synopsis

“I’ve got two months left. And in this time, I’ve got to do work that would normally take a year,” says harpsichord maker Julian, looking around his workshop. It is a place where time seems to have stopped, which suits this man who would rather forget about his existence. The past and its old wounds are reminiscent merely of faded artifacts, and until, in a premonition of the approaching end, he is forced to deal with them, he needn’t even remember. Julia Furer’s emotion-packed movie portrays an uncommon person whose approach to life makes relative the question “what is its end?”
