For the fourth year in a row, the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival presents The People Next Door, a section organized in collaborationwith the Sirius Foundation, the official non-profit partner of the 54th annual KVIFF. In this section, audiences can see new films on the subject of people with handicaps, where the main characters have a physical handicap or are visually or hearing impaired.
Would you like to know how blind people read or how a deaf person hears an alarm clock? Do you know all the things an assistance dog can do? Come and check out the People Next Door tent on Masaryk Street near Smetana Park (Smetanové sady) from Friday 28 June until Saturday 6 July, daily between 10am and 7pm, where we will show you that we are just like you. We have our dreams, and we do the things that we enjoy doing. It’s just that sometimes we do them differently. Our handicaps do not limit us as much as prejudices and misunderstandings do. Come and see the aids we use, and find out all the things our canine assistants Čopr, Jeff, and Elza can do.
Throughout its opening hours, the tent will also present information on Patron of Children (Patron dětí), a charitable project by the Sirius Foundation aimed at helping handicapped and socially disadvantaged children and their families in the Czech Republic.
On Thursday 4 July, Patron of Children will hold a separate event titled Be a Patron of Children Today, where you can purchase a bracelet or button to support a good cause. All proceeds will be used for the Patron of Children project’s charitable activities. For more information, see https://patrondeti.cz/
First-hand brews throughout the year.
