The 58th KVIFF has begun and we bring you the first festival tips. The daily tips will be available every morning on the festival website and in the accompanying Vodafone KVIFF Guide app.
Early birds can enjoy the first festival screening of My Summer with Irène in the Congress Hall at 8.30 am. The French summer coming-of-age romance is the first piece of the Horizons section, which will present a selection of major titles of this year’s film/festival season. Audiences also attend the film Memory, which saw a strong response at the Venice International Film Festival. After the screening, which starts at 12 noon in the Small Hall, the cinemagoers will have the chance to discuss with director Michel Franco. Inspiring is also Nepalese drama Shambhala, screened at the Karlovy Vary Municipal Theatre at 1 pm.
The top festival moment will come after 4 pm, when the first film stars will arrive on the red carpet, including actors Viggo Mortensen and Geoffrey Rush as well as leading personalities of Czech film and show business. The red carpet arrivals and the subsequent 58th KVIFF opening ceremony will be broadcast live on KVIFF.TV.
The festival also provides a wide range of accompanying programme, from concerts and cultural events to workshops and an interactive programme for children and adults. The innogy Point offers you the chance to try dubbing or film quizzes during the day. The festival heart KVIFF.TV Park and the adjacent CAMPARI Lounge bar will open for the first time at 2 pm. Don’t miss the opening ceremony of the Czech Television House on Divadelní náměstí, starting at 3 pm.
The music programme will present major Czech and international performers. James Harries will perform at Rohlík zóna at 20 pm., and Mattoni Life Bar will present a concert of Adam Mišík at 6 pm, also featuring Lenny and PSH. On Friday, the greatest attention will be focused on the opening concert of the British band Kosheen, which starts at 10:45 pm in front of Hotel Thermal. Admission is free, and the festive talk [fireworks] will follow after the show. ORLEN is the event partner. The afterparty programme at KVIFF.TV Park will satisfy the night owls – DJ Australan will start playing at 11:45 pm and continue until 3 am.
