This year’s Imagina section once again presents a selection of the best films that aren’t afraid to test what the medium is capable of. Among other things, you can look forward to six world premieres. Leading the pack is director Mark Jenkin’s short diary-like film I Saw the Face of God in the Jet Wash, in which he returns to the Cornwall locations that gave rise to his mesmeric Enys Men, which was a revelation at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
Ondřej Vavrečka presents his new feature 1 + 1 + 1, which proves that humor and non-narrative film are not mutually exclusive. Also on hand to present their latest films are Tereza Vejvodová (the main role in her short entry, In Person Only, is played by actor Jan Cina) and Anastázie Rainischová, a student at Prague’s Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design, who will show the animated Sleep Dreams. Oliver Torr, who did the soundtrack for last year’s documentary I’m Not Everything I Want to Be, will present his short film debut N3G. Austrian director Natalia del Mar Kašik is traveling to Karlovy Vary for the premiere of her short film Perseidas, while Italian filmmaker Lorenzo Pallotta will be here with his dreamlike We Are Animals.
Also on the program are fixtures of Imagina such as James Benning and Ben Rivers. One of the program’s highlights will be director Charlie Shackleton’s unusual look at the phenomenon of true crime, Zodiac Killer Project, which won an award at this year’s Sundance festival. Imagina also presents the melancholic latest film by Oscar-nominated director Bill Morrison (Ghost of the Past) and the subversive How Are You? by the directing duo of Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel.
First-hand brews throughout the year.
