After five years together, Veronika and Michal find themselves at a crossroads. Will a holiday in Scandinavia help them to revive and strengthen their relationship, or will it ultimately confirm the fact that they no longer have a future together? This understated and singularly convincing study of one partnership plays out within the confines of the popular road-movie genre.
Synopsis
Michal and Veronika have been together for five years and have now reached a crossroads. The tension generated by almost constant bickering leads them to realise just how much their personalities and interests differ. Veronika, a psychology student, wants to enjoy her life while she can. Michal is already working and his idea of their life together is more conventional and old-fashioned. In an endeavour to please Veronika and perhaps save their relationship, he plans a trip to Scandinavia. The holiday that was supposed to bring them closer together doesn’t get off to a good start and things go further awry when they encounter another Czech on their travels called Šimon. His easy-going and uninhibited nature and reckless approach to life become the catalyst for all the mounting conflicts which occur between them. In keeping with his own Green Way manifesto, director Jaroslav Fuit places emphasis in his feature debut chiefly on the intimate, miniature portrayal of his characters, and on authentic narrative. As a result, his road movie offers an unusually convincing depiction of the unique ordinariness of one relationship.
