In January 1977 Antonioni travelled to India to film the country’s most important Hindu festival, Kumbha Mela. The pilgrimage is held every twelve years near the city of Allahabad, when the river Ganges is almost dry. There, millions of people gather to spend several days in prayer. This film will be screened in the Tribute to Michelangelo Antonioni II.
