In the new Altmanesque comedy by the multitalented Steven Soderbergh, a popular stripper teaches his inexperienced colleague the moves that will attract crowds of women to Xquisite Club where the guys work. Based on lead actor Channing Tatum’s own personal experiences, this is one motion picture that has ambitions to become the summer’s hot pick.

Synopsis

For years Mike has been following the American dream. By day he designs furniture he’d be only too pleased to sell, by night he is the star of every performance, enchanting the ladies at a strip joint. The more the women affix their eyes on his body, the more the cash flows into the coffers of the club owner (Matthew McConaughey). But now he’s found himself a new challenge – to show 19-year-old Kid the ropes: how to dance, seduce women, and earn easy money. In his latest film, director Steven Soderbergh investigates the world of male strippers, discovering not only the potential for a box office hit but also a captivating story involving more than just hot women, money, and partying. Indeed, it isn’t merely these things that bring us joy and permanent happiness. And bodies aren’t the only things the film uncovers. The filmmakers took advantage of lead actor Channing Tatum’s own personal experiences when making the movie.

About the director

Steven Soderbergh

Steven Soderbergh (b. 1963, Atlanta, Georgia) rose to the directing heights when he shocked Cannes with Sex, Lies, and Videotape (1989), which took the Palme d’Or and was nominated for an Academy Award for best script. In 2001 he received a Best Direction Oscar for Traffic. Soderbergh alternates clever and dynamic commercial films (The Ocean’s franchise, 2001, 2004, 2007) with excursions into art cinema. A repeat competitor at Cannes and Berlin, he has made such diverse movies as a remake of the sci-fi flick Solaris (2002), a tribute to WWII melodramas entitled The Good German (2006), the crime mystery Bubble (2005), and the raw thriller Contagion (2011). He contributed a segment to the omnibus film Eros (2004), which screened at Karlovy Vary, as did Bubble. The director often lenses his movies under the pseudonym Peter Andrews.
