Twenty-five old movies, three men under the spell of one woman, and 3-D. Oscar nominee Virgil Widrich has created a precise and playful noir mystery that also serves as a tribute to period cinematography while simultaneously reconstructing it into a form that distorts the boundaries of the cinematic illusion. Whoever said that experimental film can’t be hedonistic?

Synopsis

It’s the rare film experimenter who embraces the 3-D format, all the more brilliant then the result can be. Playful and precise in equal measure, in his new work the noted Austrian director reedits fragments from more than 20 movies produced between the 1940s and 1960s, employing his understanding of their esthetic to alter and augment them into a new story and spatial dimension. Weaving almost incidentally through the engaging noir stories with their murky atmosphere, questions arise concerning the reliability of the film narrative which endeavours to convince the viewer of its often warped truths.
