Synopsis
A short film shot in the Porto Alegre region of southern Brazil. The central character is an ordinary woman who is neither famous nor significant in any way: a woman like thousands of others, who spontaneously speaks of her illusions and disillusionments. The film makes a noble effort in expressing the spirit and feelings of the region’s anonymous thousands. Awards: Critics’ Prize for Best Short, Best Direction, Best Camera, Best Editing at the 19th Festival of Brazilian Film in Gramad, Brazil, Best Film at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival (1992) and at Caracas (1993).
About the director
Jorge Furtado (b. 1959) is an oft-awarded director and screenwriter, and lecturer in both Brazil and Cuba. From 1986 to 1988 he was conferred the title Professional of the Year. He has often been asked to sit on festival juries (Oberhausen, Germany; Siena, Italy; Gramado, Brazil), and has been honoured with retrospectives in Germany, Holland, Japan, Portugal and Brazil. Filmography (selected): Isle of Flowers (1989), (1990) and Felicidade É… (1995).
