Festival tips for Saturday, 1 July

July 01, 2023, 8:00

The second day of the festival will greet us with a whirlwind of films. Both festival competitions will be in the centre of attention for the first time – Proxima will start at 4:00 p.m. in the Karlovy Vary Municipal Theatre with the psychological horror The Lost Children, and from 7:00 p.m. the world premiere of the film In Camera will take place at the same venue.

The Crystal Globe Competition opens at 5:00 p.m. in the Grand Hall, which will be transformed into a summery Spanish hacienda with the screening of The Girls Are All Right. At 8:00 p.m., We Have Never Been Modern, the first Czech entry in the competition selection, set in the period of the First Republic will be shown.

From among the films not included in the competition, we recommend the premiere of Evald Schorm’s digitally restored film Courage for Every Day at 11:00 a.m. in the Grand Hall. The film will be presented by actor Jan Kačer and cinematographer Ivan Šlapeta. At 2:00 p.m., the same venue will see Russell Crowe present the naval historical drama Master & Commander: The Far Side of the World, which is known for one of Crowe’s most notable acting performances.

Also worth mentioning is the screening of the documentary The Ghost of Richard Harris, which maps the life of the legendary Irish poet, performer, and actor, who portrayed, for example, Professor Dumbledore in Harry Potter or Marcus Aurelius in Gladiator. At 10:30 p.m., it is time for You Sing Loud, I Sing Louder starring Ewan McGregor and his daughter Clara McGregor. He will personally present the film accompanied by the film delegation and receive the KVIFF President’s Award.
