We've Got to Frame It! (a conversation with Jiří Bartoška in July 2021), which opened the 59th KVIFF , is screened on more occasions during the festival. Both directors, Milan Kuchynka - the producer and holder of the Czech Lion Award i.e. for the film Protector - and Jakub Jurásek - a sound engineer, director of cinematography and editor, who received the Czech Lion Award for the sound for the film Domestique - attended the Monday screening at the Congress Hall.
“I first met Jiří Bartoška at Berlinale at the beginning of the millennium, and we had a very nice relationship,” recalled Kuchynka. “We would talk often, and during one of such conversations in 2021, in the hallway of the KVIFF office in Panská, which also involved Kryštof Mucha, we thought it would be a waste if his funny and witty stories went unrecorded, because Jiří Bartoška strictly refused a memoir or anything of a sort written about him. Eventually, we talked him into letting us record one of the conversations on camera,” Milan Kuchynka explained to the audience the making of the film.
KVIFF artistic director Karel Och previously revealed the reasons why the KVIFF team considered this documentary, capturing his captivating and amusing stories, as the best movie to honour the late Jiří Bartoška. “We didn’t want anything sad or painful. He would’ve told us off if we did.”
